Winner of a MacArthur Award in 2006 he has published Complications: A Surgeon's Notes on an Imperfect Science, a finalist for the National Book Award. The author is most memorable to me from his his first book, Complications, a Surgeon's Notes on an Imperfect Science. In 2006, he received the MacArthur Award for his research and writing. It seems that uncertainty, error, and risk are woven into the fabric of earthly life. Is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. Better: A Surgeon's Notes on Performance. He gave an 8:00 in the morning speech. With all due respect, this article was directed towards medical students (NOT residents), and did not aim to start a book club discussion on “Complications – A Surgeon's Notes on an Imperfect Science”!
